Through my retreats I hope to contribute to the education of all Hapkido students

What seems to be lacking in modern education is the explanation of the principles and the unification of mind & body through precise training. To this end I have studied all my life and have been tested in those principles as both a soldier and police officer. We all have a quest to understand and to ‘master the way’. Mine has taken on many forms and of course came with age and maturity. First learning the basic fighting skills and concepts of Hapkido is easy and I mastered those very early on in my education with Master Song. But it was not until I was fortunate to meet Master Lee in Seoul Korea over 20 years ago that the four key principles of Hapkido became united within me. My meeting with Master Lee was luck and arranged by Master Kim another early student of the founders. Master Lee had been watching me train and asked me why I came to Korea to study Hapkido I replied “To master it”. He laughed and told me to get my wallet so I did. As he thumbed through it he said, “Not enough here” and handed it back to me with a big smile on his face. From that point on I became his direct student, a mentoring took place where I would travel to Korea as often as I could and train under him; the old master and the Canadian. This went on till his death just a few years ago. I never got a chance to train with the founder but to train with his earliest students and Master Lee, that was an eye opener. Just when you think years of hard training are paying off and you’ve got it down pat you meet someone skilled like Master Lee. If I may, this is the continuation of his mentoring ,I would like to share with you on my retreats. We will not just learn but practice how to use our mind and body to physically, mentally and spiritually do Hapkido. I will add to the this knowledge how to realistically use many of the skills and weapons concepts in close combat, an expertise I picked up in 39 plus years of military and police operational service. This was the part of my skill that Master Lee was impressed with when he watched me train and fight. He felt he could better help me channel that anger and rage to mastering myself rather than having it hurt people. He gave me a course of study to believe in something. I believe that is missing in most modern Hapkido schools. I bet I’ve got you interested in finding out what that is? Well I spent 20 years and thousands of dollars traveling to Korea to learn and master something important to me.
You will need to travel to my ‘Hidden Port Do Jang’ in Puerto Escondido Mexico if
it is important to you as well. You will find I chose an incredible beautiful part
of ‘Old Mexico’ to live and teach from. When you come, leave your worries at home,
clear your mind, join others and we’ll just relax and train. I will enlighten you
to some of those principles I have learned and applied in my mastery of Hapkido in
almost five decades. We both understand that we can only truly accomplish so much
in a short time (4-
